Rumors about the New England Patriots say the team could sign a new star wide receiver on June 1.
Trade talks have surrounded Philadelphia Eagleswide receiver A.J. Brown and the Patriots for the past two months.
Brown was once coached by current Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel when the two were part of the Tennessee Titans.
And rumors have been swirling for some time that Brown would be a Patriot by June 1, 2026, a date which serves as one of the salary cap deadlines for the NFL.
“Among the reasons why a deal has yet to be made is the way Brown’s contract affects the Eagles’ salary cap,” Sports Illustrated said. “If Philadelphia had traded him before June 1, it would have carried his entire $43 million dead-cap charge in 2026. Waiting until 4 p.m. on June 1, however, allows them to split it, with $16.4 million accelerating onto 2026 and the remaining $27.1 million being pushed to ’27.”
“Today, it will get done,” Former Patriots quarterback Scott Zolak said on the Zolak & Betrand show Monday, which airs on radio station 98.5 the Sports Hub at 10 a.m. on weekdays.
But reports are also out today that say that Brown’s side and the Patriots have not spoken in weeks.
Is there any word on the deal that would send Brown to the Patriots?
Not yet, but the deal could get done as soon as today, Monday, June 1, after 4 p.m. according to 98.5 the Sports Hub.
According to reports, the Eagles would like a number-one draft pick as compensation for Brown.
