The No. 3 national seed Georgia Bulldogs are one win away from winning the Athens Regional. On Sunday, Georgia will play the winner of the Boston College-Liberty game with an opportunity to advance to the super regionals, where the Bulldogs would host a series against the winner of the Starkville Regional (No. 14 national seed Mississippi State has the edge in the regional).
If Georgia lost on Sunday, then they’d have a rematch with either Boston College or Liberty on Monday. In the regional, which is double elimination, Georgia is the only remaining undefeated team. The Bulldogs hit five home runs in their 6-2 win over Liberty, which helped UGA take control of the regional.
“We gave up three hits today, and we gave up two yesterday,” Georgia baseball coach Wes Johnson said after the Bulldogs beat Liberty on Sunday. “Our offense is extremely, extremely good, but other offenses are good as well. I thought our pitching and defense was outstanding today.”
Georgia’s combination of pitching and hitting is elite. The Bulldogs are one of the hottest teams in college baseball right now and have lost just one game in May.
