Auburn baseball grabbed the No. 4 national seed in the NCAA Tournament that begins Friday, and is viewed as the favorite to win the regional and advance to its second-straight NCAA Super Regional, which it would host for the second consecutive season. Most of the favorable predictions can be attributed to their pitching staff.
The Tigers’ weekend starters, Jake Marciano, Andreas Alvarez, and Alex Petrovic, have combined to strike out 283 batters while walking just 64 and allowing 80 earned runs. With numbers like that, it is easy to see why D1Baseball gives Auburn the “best starting rotation” superlative ahead of the 2026 Auburn Regional.
This nod goes to Auburn, and it’s not particularly close, as it has three weekend starters who would all be aces on most other teams around the country.
In addition to being called the best starting rotation, Auburn also boasts the best starting pitcher of the regional in Jake Marciano. Marciano enters the weekend with a 5-5 record; however, his record should not fool you as he boasts a 2.65 ERA and a WHIP of 0.97, which ranks No. 10 in the nation. He also holds 100 strikeouts to just 17 walks in 81 2/3 innings pitched over 15 starts. He will aim to produce another quality outing in the Auburn Regional while relying on his offense to produce runs. Auburn’s bats have produced just seven runs of support for Marciano over his last three starts, and five of Marciano’s last six starts have been decided by two or fewer runs.
