One of the biggest questions surrounding the Celtics this offseason is whether they will part ways with the Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum duo by trading Brown. However, NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal isn’t in favor of breaking up the dynamic duo and instead stated what he would change.
“I don’t think they should break up the Jays.,” O’Neal said Tuesday on “The Rich Eisen Show”. “They just have to learn how to have better in-game adjustments. You know, the Celtics, they’re going to die by the jump shot and live by the jump shot.”
The Celtics are among the many NBA teams striving to shoot the 3-pointer at a high rate, and they even rank third in the league for most 3-pointers made this season. Yet, when their long-range shots aren’t falling, Boston struggles to win games.
Boston needs to develop a more effective strategy to improve its interior scoring next season. One possible avenue for the Celtics could be to break up the duo of Brown and Tatum by trading Brown for a dominant big man like Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, who can score inside with ease.
Acquiring Antetokounmpo will only be successful if head coach Joe Mazzulla adjusts his coaching philosophy. Antetokounmpo is not an outside shooting threat, and expecting to trade for him only to turn him into a shooter simply won’t work.
