President Cyril Ramaphosa has officially filed papers in the Western Cape High Court to review the Section 89 Independent Panel Report into Phala Phala.
The report found that he may have a case to answer regarding the February 2020 theft of foreign currency at his Limpopo farm.
He is seeking only a review and not an interim interdict against the pending impeachment process.
The review bid seeks to invalidate the report itself, as well as any steps taken by the National Assembly pursuant to the report.
These steps include the National Assembly’s impeachment process – which is reliant on the report – that is well under way.
This leaves questions in the air as to how the National Assembly will navigate its obligations which it is bound by as per the Constitutional Court order against the backdrop that the very report it relies on and the steps it has taken are under review.
