TalkSPORT radio host Alan Brazil, who is recovering from a life-saving operation, says he will return to the airwaves in “weeks”.
In an update on Instagram, the 66-year-old former Ipswich Town and Scotland forward declared: “As you can see, I’m beginning to improve rapidly, which is great news. I was nearly gone, I don’t mind telling you.”
Brazil, who has not revealed details of the surgery, has been absent from his breakfast show since March.
“It’s a miracle what’s happened,” said Brazil. “[The] NHS, brilliant. I can’t thank the people at Cambridge enough, they’ve saved my life basically.
‘Lucky boy’
In Monday’s message, recorded while he sat outside in a garden in Suffolk, he said: “I’m on the mend, I’m missing radio. I will be back.
“Thank you for all the messages [of support], I really appreciate it and I’m a lucky boy.”
He finished his message: “It won’t be long now, a few weeks… Brazil is back.”
He has hosted TalkSPORT’s breakfast show for more than 25 years.
Brazil made more than 150 league appearances for Ipswich and went on to play for Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, before finishing his playing career at non-league Wivenhoe Town near Colchester in Essex.
The Glaswegian racked up 13 Scotland caps and also turned out for Coventry and Queens Park Rangers during his career.
