While much of the attention around Barcelona has focused on signing a traditional centre-forward to replace Robert Lewandowski, the Catalan club are now seriously exploring more dynamic attacking profiles capable of transforming the frontline in multiple ways.
According to AS, one of the names climbing the shortlist once again after a brief hiatus is Anthony Gordon.
The Newcastle United winger is admired both by Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco, with Barcelona seeing the England international as a player who could immediately add needed traits.
A different type of attacking solution
Barcelona’s interest in Gordon says a lot about the direction the club may be preparing to take next season.
Apart from searching purely for a penalty-box striker, the coaching staff is also looking at forwards capable of rotating positions, attacking space aggressively, and pressing with high energy.

In this regard, Gordon has been one of Newcastle’s most important players this season.
His influence has grown enormously, especially since the departure of Alexander Isak, both because of his performances and because of the emotional connection he has built with supporters.
That is one of the reasons negotiations would be extremely complicated.
What about the finances
Gordon recently renewed his contract until 2030, placing Newcastle in a strong negotiating position.
In fact, it is said that the Premier League side is expected to demand close to €80 million if serious talks begin.

However, the situation may not be entirely straightforward because Barcelona know Newcastle could be forced into a significant sale this summer due to financial balancing requirements.
That possibility has encouraged several major European clubs to monitor the situation closely, including Bayern Munich.
Furthermore, the player himself is also believed to be open to leaving Newcastle if the right sporting opportunity arrives.
For now, though, the Catalan club is still deciding whether to permanently sign Marcus Rashford or not. If that happens, the Blaugrana might not move for Gordon at all.
