As the Texas Longhorns continue to add to their 2027 class, they have turned their focus to a talented lineman in John Archer. On Thursday, the Longhorns offered the four-star recruit. The focus for Steve Sarkisian and his staff will now be to get Archer to campus for a visit.
While the Longhorns would get a boost with the North Carolina native in the mix, they are not the only programs in the running. During the recruiting process, Archer has also received offers from Florida State, Georgia, Kansas State, NC State, and North Carolina. The heavy interest comes as no surprise given the numbers Archer has put up.

The Seventy-First High product was a human highlight reel during the 2024 campaign. As a sophomore, Archer recorded 84 total tackles, including 31 for a loss. He also added five sacks, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery to his resume.
Due to his play, Archer has drawn the attention of scouts nationwide. He is currently ranked as the sixth-best player at his position by 247Sports. They also rank Archer as the 70th best player in the nation and the fourth best from North Carolina. With one more season left in his high school career, Archer could continue to move up recruiting boards.
If Archer were to join the Longhorns he would be part of a 2027 class that is full of talent. The Longhorns have secured commitments from four-star wide receiver Easton Royal, three-star edge Cameron Hall, three-star tight end JT Geraci, three-star linebacker Cade Haug and three-star cornerback Karnell James. That group will be tasked with bringing a national championship to Austin.
Over the next few months, Archer will continue to weigh his options before deciding where to start his college career. The Longhorns have made their interest clear and will be looking to make Archer an offer he can’t refuse.
