The Tennessee Titans return home to Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee, after a win and a loss during a two-game road trip.
This week, face the famous franchise of the Kansas City Chiefs at noon CST on CBS.
Here are 6 things you should know about this Week 16 matchup.
History
The Titans and Chiefs have had a fun history in the past decade, facing off six times, with the Titans’ record being 4-2 over that time period. Five of those six matchups were decided by 11 points or less, and 4 of them were decided by one possession. Two of these matchups occurred in the postseason.
Safe to say, there’s a dramatic recent history with this team.
All time, the Chiefs lead the series, 31-25. Last time these teams played (2022), the Chiefs prevailed in an overtime thriller, 20-17. Last time they played in Nashville (2021), the Titans blew out the Chiefs, 27-3.
Titans’ run offense is effective again
The Titans put together this stunning stat on Sunday. It seems that they have finally found success on the ground after this last two-game stretch. This offensive line is run blocking at a high level right now, and Tony Pollard has been taking advantage. It would be smart for the Titans coaching staff to keep a healthy dose of this run game if they want to win.
Wild stat for a 13-point loss: the Titans had a 70% success rate on designed runs against the 49ers yesterday.
That’s the highest designed run success rate in a game by any team all season!

Deprived of Ward-Mahomes I
Unfortunately, this matchup was looking to be the first time Patrick Mahomes and Cam Ward would share an NFL field, but that went all down the drain last Sunday. Mahomes was lost for the rest of the season with an ACL injury. This hurts for him, and the big appeal of this matchup.
Cam Ward is a young starting quarterback who really evokes some of Mahomes’ style and traits successfully since Mahomes burst onto the scene in 2018. That is another reason it hurts to see Mahomes go down.
Banged-up Titans’ secondary
The Titans suffered a trio of injuries in the safety room. Xavier Woods, Mike Brown, and Kevin Winston all went to the injured reserve (IR) list. They will not return this season. This is devastating to the back end of the defense, and it’s something the Chiefs should take advantage of. On the Titans’ side, it really hurts Kevin Winston, who was having a strong rookie campaign.
Chiefs eliminated from playoff contention
Now this is a rare occurrence. The Chiefs were knocked out of playoff contention for the first time since 2014. It’s so rare for this organization that Travis Kelce is the only major contributor on this roster to have previously experienced it. The Titans’ loss of the opportunity to eliminate the Chiefs might demotivate the Titans organization.
Matt Nagy gets an up-close look
Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy’s name has popped up in Titans’ head coaching search rumors since Brian Callahan’s dismissal. There is, of course, the obvious Mike Borgonzi connection, but he will still need to woo Amy Adams Strunk to get anywhere past the first round of interviews. Anticipate Nagy, Adams, and Borgonzi to briefly chat pre-game. That will be a crucial baby step in Nagy’s interview process before formals begin.
