After a stellar college career, Michael Taaffe is taking his game to the next level. The Longhorns star announced on Monday that he was entering the NFL Draft. For teams that need help in the secondary, the Austin native should be a popular option.
During his time as a Longhorn, Taaffe went from being a walk-on to one of Steve Sarkisian’s most important players. He appeared in 53 games, making 36 starts. The talented safety was a human highlight reel, recording 221 total tackles and 14 pass deflections. He also added seven interceptions and three sacks to his resume.

While Taaffe shined on the field, he also added to his trophy case. Last week, he was the recipient of the 2025 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy. Each year, the award celebrates student athletes who use their platforms to serve others and create positive change and who exemplify community service, academic excellence, and athletic achievement. He was also named one of three finalists for the Burlsworth Trophy.
Although Taaffe’s statistics are impressive, his impact goes beyond the numbers. He became an irreplaceable piece and a veteran leader on a team with national championship aspirations. His determination to be one of the best at the position catapulted him into a starting role.

As the Westlake Grad prepares to wow NFL teams, he will not be alone. Anthony Hill Jr. also declared for the draft and, like Taaffe, is opting out of the Citrus Bowl to prepare. That duo accounted for a lot of wins over the last two years.
Over the next few months, it will be interesting to see where Taaffe is ranked in mock drafts. He proved that he could hold his own in the SEC and should hear his name called at some point when the draft rolls around.
