Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes appeared to suffer a serious injury during the Kansas City Chiefs’ loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.
The extent and exact nature of Mahomes’ injury are unknown, but the two-time MVP posted a message to his fans on Twitter that seems to indicate that he expects to be sidelined for the foreseeable future.
The tweet comes after Kansas City was officially eliminated from playoff contention in Week 15, and just hours after veteran backup Gardner Minshew took Mahomes’ place as the Chiefs’ quarterback following his injury against the Chargers.
Take a look at Mahomes’ full message below:
Don’t know why this had to happen. And not going to lie it’s hurts. But all we can do now is Trust in God and attack every single day over and over again. Thank you Chiefs kingdom for always supporting me and for everyone who has reached out and sent prayers. I Will be back…

While it is still unclear how much time Mahomes will need to miss due to the injury he sustained in Week 15, the Kansas City faithful should prepare themselves to watch Chiefs football without their legendary signal-caller under center.
