Davante Adams went down in the fourth quarter of the Los Angeles Rams’ win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday, reinjuring the hamstring that’s been nagging him for the last couple of weeks. After the game, Sean McVay wouldn’t rule out the receiver for Week 16 against the Seattle Seahawks, but he said “it didn’t look good” when describing Adams’ injury.
There’s no clear timetable for Adams’ return but the wideout will undergo an MRI to determine the severity of his hamstring strain, Ian Rapoport reported Monday morning. Rapoport added that “the hope” is Adams will be able to return for the playoffs, suggesting he’ll miss the final three weeks of the regular season.
“With any injury, but certainly a hamstring injury, hard to imagine he is out there Thursday night against Seattle in what is a big, big game,” Rapoport said of Adams.
He continued: “Really, there are only a couple types of injuries this time of year. There’s an injury where a guy is fine, there’s an injury where he’s back for the playoffs, and then he’s done. The hope is this is one of those (where) he’s back for the playoffs. There’s only a couple of weeks. Hard to imagine he’s out there before he’s fully healthy, but the MRI will tell the story. Obviously, a lot up in the air for the Los Angeles Rams and their touchdown machine.”
The Rams will face the Seahawks on Thursday night before taking on the Falcons in Week 17, a Monday night showdown in Atlanta. After that, the season finale will be against the Cardinals on either Saturday or Sunday in Week 18.
If the Rams manage to win on Thursday night without Adams, they can feel good about letting him take his time healing with two very winnable games in the final two weeks. Plus, they could earn a first-round bye if they win out and secure the No. 1 seed.
That would give Adams four weeks to rest before returning for the divisional round.
