Coming off a big loss to the Green Bay Packers, the Chicago Bears have no time to waste in getting back in the win column, taking on the Cleveland Browns this Sunday at Soldier Field.
The Week 14 matchup against Green Bay could’ve been the biggest and most important game of the season up to this point, and quarterback Caleb Williams said he’ll be using plenty of lessons from that game to help lead him and the team back against Cleveland this weekend.
The biggest takeaway from Williams is his urgency for faster starts, especially in finding their rhythm on offense. In the first half against the Packers, Williams threw for just 32 yards (on 6-of-14 passing), but finished the game completing 19-of-35 passes for 186 yards and two touchdowns. While his final pass of the game was the deciding throw, an interception to the Packers corner Keisean Nixon, Williams recognized that if the team can start faster, he wouldn’t put them in that position.
“We need to start faster. I need to start faster,” Williams said. “We need to start faster and I think that will do us well, as a team and as an offense especially. That’s something that they did better than us today, I would say. They made plays at the end of the day. So, a few more plays than us.”
Chicago’s first half offense has certainly been an issue at multiple times this season, and they’ve yet to show a complete offensive performance from start to finish in both the pass and running game. It’ll be interesting to see how the Bears come out against the Browns on Sunday, especially when they have a big problem to defend in Myles Garrett, who is looking to make NFL history in setting the single-season sack record.
