What a difference a day makes.
Each time Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels has gone down this season, the team anticipates his return.
But sometimes, enough is enough. That may not be the case here, but when Daniels went down again Sunday, Dan Quinn said in the postgame presser that Daniels could have returned if needed. Yet, whatever happened on Monday with the expected medical tests, and then on Wednesday, Quinn surprisingly announced that Daniels is not playing Sunday against the New York Giants.
Scott Abraham of Washington’s ABC 7 inquired whether Quinn had seen any benefit to going ahead and sitting Daniels for the remainder of the season.
“I recognize the question,” Quinn responded. “It’s an easy one to go and we haven’t really gone down that road yet to decide. He’s out this week, and he’s working hard to get back, but as far as what decisions are ahead, we just haven’t gotten down that road. He is working incredibly hard to get back with the guys. So yeah, we’re really bummed.”
The Jayden Daniels debate.
For weeks head coach Dan Quinn has talked about the benefits for Jayden to keep playing this season.
Today, I flipped it. I asked DQ if he sees any benefit to Jayden sitting the rest of the season.

Making such an announcement, of course, immediately raises questions in minds as to what kind of damage was found on Monday? Was the arm re-injured? If so, to what degree?
“He got re-aggravated on this specific injury. Going into it, thought he had a good week, there were things to improve upon into the game to get started, but we haven’t gone down all the way yet. We just kind of went through the first evaluations this week to get ready to play. So, I’ll have a better update as we’re moving forward.”
Quinn insisted the re-aggravation was nothing serious, nothing structural. Yet he did say on Wednesday that he was advised by medical staff. Perhaps he was advised to allow the aggravation to heal further before any more contact.
What a strange, disappointing season for the 2025 Commanders.
