Miami hosts its penultimate match at the 2026 World Cup today with Norway vs. England in a quarterfinal showdown of two squads with major offensive firepower.
The biggest — and we mean that literally — is Norway’s Erling Haaland, averaging almost two goals per game coming into Hard Rock Stadium. He singlehandedly took down five-time world champion Brazil in the Round of 16 and has gotten Norway farther than it ever has at the World Cup. The biggest underdogs left standing, the Landslaget will look to take out England, seeking its first world title since 1966. Led by Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham, the Three Lions have come painfully close to glory in recent years, losing in the final of the past two Euros and reaching the semifinals of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Today’s winner will wait around to learn their semifinal opponent: Lionel Messi and Argentina, or Granit Xhaka and Switzerland. The Palm Beach Post is bringing you live updates, scores and highlights from “Miami Stadium.” Follow along.

Golden Boot race 2026
Norway star Erling Haaland enters today’s game with seven goals in four World Cup matches, while England captain Harry Kane has six. Here’s where they stand in the Golden Boot race heading into today’s game:
- Kylian Mbappe (France): 8 goals (3 assists)
- Lionel Messi (Argentina): 8 goals (1 assist)
- Erling Haaland (Norway): 7 goals (0 assists)
- Harry Kane (England): 6 goals (1 assist)
- Ousmane Dembele (France): 5 goals (2 assists)
Why doesn’t Erling Haaland play for England?
Haaland has dual citizenship with Norway and England, having been born in 2000 in Leeds (his father played in the Premier League). According to ESPN, Haaland’s family moved back to Norway when he was 3, so Erling came up in the Norwegian soccer system. “Maybe if my father had played longer in England or whatever, maybe I would be English — I don’t know,” he said in a 2025 interview. “But I’m Norwegian and I’m proud of it.”
Why does Erling Haaland’s jersey say ‘Braut Haaland?’
At the World Cup, Norwegian star Erling Haaland chose to honor both of his parents’ names on his jersey. The striker’s mother, Gry Marita Braut, was a track and field star and an accomplished heptathlete. His father, Alf-Inge Haaland, was also a successful soccer player and spent time with Nottingham Forest, Leeds and Manchester City as a defender. – Victoria Hernandez, USA TODAY
