Do you remember the Boston Celtics 1962 NBA Championship? Among even the most ardent Celtics fans, the pool of fans who can remember this moment in team history is growing ever smaller as time passes on a title won over 60 years ago. But that does not mean that the chip is not worth remembering.
Far from it in fact, as it was one of the nine NBA finals matchups with Boston’s oldest and greatest rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers. The series would go to seven games. The Celtics came out on top in the end through the elite play of the dynasty era Celtics helmed by Hall of Fame coach Red Auerbach, Celtics big legend Bill Russell, Boston lifer Tommy Heinsohn, and more Boston icons.
Celtics beat writer emeritus Bob Ryan put out a video of the storied ball club’s fifth NBA title, one he got to Boston too late to see with his own eyes as a journalist. But not so late he did not get to know many of the players involved. Check it out below!
