Regardless of the outcome of the fight between Conor McGregor and Max Holloway this weekend, there is no doubt McGregor is the greatest in UFC history.
The greatest trash talker, that is.
He’ll have an opportunity to put those skills on display in primetime. The setting: a one-hour live special to be broadcast by CBS from the weigh-in for UFC 329 at 9 p.m. ET Friday, July 10. (CBS and Paramount+, UFC’s streaming partner, both are part of Paramount, the parent company.)
So let the post-Fourth of July fireworks begin, right?
Whether McGregor can recapture his magnificence in the Octagon after a five-year layoff will be revealed Saturday, July 11 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. But the one-hour primetime special creates an opportunity to test skills as a promoter, entertainer and showman.
The special will feature interviews with McGregor and Holloway, co-main combatants Paddy Pimblett and Benoit Saint-Denis and an appearance by UFC CEO Dana White.
At 37, McGregor might be more subdued than before. But already he has vowed to be “venomous’’ in the lead-up to his five-round welterweight bout against Holloway. It’ll be a rematch of their fight in 2013, when McGregor won by unanimous decision.
