Jesse Derry is set to join Sporting Lisbon on a season-long loan, in a move designed to fast-track the teenager’s development.
The Chelsea forward will spend the 2026-27 campaign in Portugal, Fabrizio Romano reports, before returning to Stamford Bridge in June 2027.
The loan follows a fresh commitment to the club. Derry signed a new long-term contract at Chelsea only this week, ending speculation over his future.
Bayern Munich and Juventus had both circled the 19-year-old, but the extension ended any prospect of an immediate exit.

The terms suit all parties. Chelsea will cover Derry’s wages in full, while there is no option to buy attached to the deal.
It leaves the Blues in complete control of a prospect they rate highly, with Sporting effectively offering a development platform.
His rise has been rapid. Derry joined Chelsea from Crystal Palace’s academy last summer, having turned down a professional deal at Selhurst Park.
Within months he had broken into the senior squad, making three first-team appearances during the 2025-26 season. Those outings included a bittersweet Premier League debut.
Derry started against Nottingham Forest in May, though he suffered a head injury that required hospital treatment during his brief senior involvement.
It was a sobering moment in an otherwise exciting breakthrough. His youth numbers explain the excitement.
Derry scored freely for Chelsea’s Under-21s and impressed in the UEFA Youth League, earning regular caps for England at youth level.
He is the son of former Crystal Palace and Leeds midfielder Shaun Derry. The move fits Chelsea’s wider strategy under Xabi Alonso.
The club have looked to trim a bloated squad this summer, sending young talents out for senior minutes while banking sales elsewhere.
Regular football now awaits in a competitive league. Sporting, Portuguese heavyweights, offer Derry the chance to test himself at a higher level before returning to fight for a place under Alonso in 2027.
