NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – It has been a while since either Ascension Catholic or Riverside Academy have claimed championship gold.
But on Thursday afternoon, one of those title droughts will be snapped at the Caesars Superdome. The Bulldogs take on the Rebels for the Division IV Select championship as part of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s Prep Classic.

Ascension Catholic is in the Prep Classic for the first time since back-to-back runner-up finishes in 2017-18. The Bulldogs are seeking their first state title since 1992, and the fourth in program history.
They come into Thursday’s championship game at 11-2. The No. 5 seed, Ascension Catholic upset top-seeded Westminster Christian, 45-14, in last week’s semifinals.
Riverside Academy is the No. 2 seed. The Rebels advanced to the Superdome after a 42-14 semifinal win against No. 6 seeded Ascension Episcopal.
With a win Thursday, Riverside will have won state for the second time in program history, previously having won it all in 2016.

FOURTH QUARTER
– Riverside’s Ahmad Cage applies pressure on fourth down, forcing an incomplete pass. Rebels take over with 1:15 left, and they will be in the victory formation.
– Riverside comes up with back-to-back sacks, forcing a fourth-and-long with 1:22 left. Ascension Catholic calls its second time out.
– FIELD GOAL RIVERSIDE. William Rauch nails a huge 40-yard field goal, and the Rebels are up 10 with more than two minutes left. (Riverside Academy, 31-21 | 2:07, 4th)
– Riverside flagged for a false start. Rebels now with a fourth-and-7 at the AC 23 and appear to be going for a 40-yard field goal. Bulldogs call their first time out of the half with 2:13 remaining.
– Riverside faces a third-and-9 at the AC 25. Run by Jayden Obiewke comes up 2 yards short of the first down. Fourth-and-2 with less than three minutes now.
– Brock Bourgeois completes a pass for another Riverside first down to the AC 26. Less than five minutes now.

– Riverside faces a fourth-and-short at the AC 12 with close to 10 minutes left.
– Riverside on the move again, and the Rebels are getting close to the red zone.
– We go now into the final quarter. Riverside has possession and a two-touchdown lead. Rebels had 279 total yards through three quarters. Ascension Catholic had 173 yards in that span.
THIRD QUARTER

HALFTIME
– Ascension Catholic running back Trevin Simon had 95 yards on 17 carries with a TD in the first half for the Bulldogs.
– Riverside Academy has 174 yards of total offense, while Ascension Catholic has 107.
SECOND QUARTER
– INTERCEPTION ASCENSION CATHOLIC. Bulldogs thwart a potential Riverside scoring chance as Jacob Julien picks off a pass inside his own 20 with 15 seconds left.
– A fourth-down pass attempt falls incomplete and Riverside holds entering the final minute of the half. The Rebels then break off a long run to get into AC territory with 33 seconds left.
– Fumbled snap, but Ascension Catholic recovers. However, that puts the Bulldogs in a fourth-and-6 situation at the Riverside 33.
– Trevin Simon breaks off a long run for Ascension Catholic, and the Bulldogs are inside the Riverside 40 nearing two minutes left until intermission.
