Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane says he feels vindicated following a ruling by the High Court in KuGompo City about his deregistration at the University of Fort Hare in 2021.
The court ruled in his favour declaring the decision to deregister Mabuyane from his Master’s degree studies at the university unlawful and constitutionally invalid.
The court further directed the university to review his enrolment.
The University of Fort Hare cited that he did not meet registration requirements at the time.
Mabuyane says the matter has been used as a political ploy by his detractors, and he now feels vindicated.
“As I have been saying from day one, this was just a diversion from someone who has not been doing his work well. This has been a fabrication, and I have done everything, and I know when this matter started, we were about 25 students who were taken through for RPL. It’s always amazing why this thing is about me alone. It has been a witch hunt from day one. I know the Vice Chancellor there has been trying to settle his own personal scores for using me as a sacrificial lamb,” says Mabuyane.
The university says it is still studying the judgment and will comment on the matter in due course.
