Alex Cora might still be upset about the way things ended with the Boston Red Sox, but that didn’t stop him from praising his former employer over the weekend.
On Saturday, the Red Sox began having players, staff members, and their families collect donations to support those impacted by last week’s devastating earthquakes in Venezuela. The initiative will run through Wednesday.
Several players, including Venezuela natives Carlos Narvaez and Willson Contreras, collected donations on Jersey Street ahead of Sunday’s series finale with the New York Yankees. The Red Sox posted photos to their official X account, and the post drew a reaction from Cora, who was fired in late April.
“Not surprised,” Cora wrote. That’s how the Red Sox do it.”

Cora was in the region over the weekend, as the free agent manager was spotted at a pizzeria in Newport, R.I. As of this writing, there wasn’t any reason to believe he also attended a Red Sox game.
Following its four-game sweep of the Yankees, Boston will host the Washington Nationals for a three-game set before leaving town for a lengthy road trip.
