The Pittsburgh Penguins could make a bold move to add some star young talent to the roster.
Pittsburgh is reportedly set to go ‘big-game hunting’ this offseason to add more talent to their roster. One young player who is likely is available in a trade is Mason McTavish from the Anaheim Ducks.
McTavish is likely to be dealt this offseason, and Penguins insider Josh Yohe of The Athletic believes Pittsburgh should pursue him in a trade.
“He’s young, he’s extremely talented and he could use a change of scenery. He’d be a risk, but McTavish has big-time talent. He’s right up Dubas’ alley,” Yohe wrote. … “If I’m Dubas, I’m making the call and talking business. It’s worth having the discussion.”
Anaheim selected McTavish third overall in the 2021 NHL Draft but his name has come up as a change-of-scenery candidate. He recorded 17 goals and 24 assists for 41 points in 75 games last season, while his career-high is 22 goals and 52 points.
McTavish is entering the second yea of his six-year, $42 million deal as he’s owed $7 million per season, so there is some cost-certainty by acquiring him.
The Ducks will likely trade McTavish very shortly, with the first round of the NHL Draft kicking off on Friday.
