With Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala now designated as a state witness following a plea and sentencing agreement, attention is shifting to how his testimony may strengthen the State’s case against senior police officials.
On Friday morning, suspended National Police Commissioner-General, Fannie Masemola and several other high-ranking police officials appeared, in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court.
They are facing charges related to the R228m South African Police Service (SAPS) contract awarded to Matlala’s company. The State has announced that all legal teams representing the accused will receive the docket contents on USB devices.
“That will take until mid July. The state had requested them that they must come to the offices of the state, at the the CSIR building and we will provide them with USB, and they need to come with the laptops so they can satisfy themselves,” says State prosecutor Santhosh Manillal.
