The National Prosecution Authority’s (NPA) Asset Forfeiture Unit has frozen a luxury property belonging to Judge Portia Dipuo Phahlane valued at R6 million.
The property in Hartbeespoort is alleged to have been acquired through the proceeds of unlawful activities, including corruption and money laundering.
Judge Phahlane, who is currently out on bail, is facing allegations of accepting a R2m bribe in exchange for delivering a favorable judgment in the succession case of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church.
“We’ve got evidence of movements and transactions. We have got information about where these people met and they were placed in that same place at the same time. And we have got information of that transaction being transferred to each other in cash and therefore that money was ultimately then sent to the lawyers and the lawyers then used the money to buy this property,” says NPA Spokesperson, Kaizer Kganyago.
