The last time they were at Fenway Park, the Yankees swept a three-game mid-week series – April 21-23 – and soon after, Alex Cora was stunningly the ex-Red Sox manager.
Things haven’t gone much better in Boston since then.
Under new manager Chad Tracy, the Red Sox are 22-29 and still residing in last place in the AL East as the first-place Yankees arrive to play a four-game set beginning Thursday night.
Boston is scheduled to throw a trio of lefty starters against the Yanks, starting tonight with Connelly Early (6-5, 3.64) going against the dynamic Cam Schlittler (8-3 1.71).
A leading candidate for the AL Cy Young Award at midseason, Schlittler – a New Englander, from nearby Weymouth, Mass. – has already experienced pitching in front of the agitated Fenway fans.
Back on April 23, Schlittler went eight innings and was charged with one run in a 4-2 win.
