Police Divisional Commissioner for Human Resources, Bongiwe Zulu has confirmed that police officers with critical skills who have applied for leave have been placed on standby ahead of planned protest marches on the 30th of June.
She was speaking in Cape Town during a media briefing called by Acting Police Minister, Firoz Cachalia.
Zulu says, “I must indicate that leave has already been suspended for certain individuals. I am one of those that is supposed to be on leave, but it was suspended. Those that already went on leave before this time, who are at home, if they have got no critical skills and expertise that we are going to need at this particular time as SAPS we know that when service delivery is needed on our side they will have to come.”
Cachalia has also called on religious leaders, civil society, community-based organisations and trade union leaders to speak out against threats to destabilise the country over the issue of undocumented immigrants in the country.
