Who gets your vote as the 2025-26 Washington County high school sports coach of the year?
Twenty-two coaches are nominated and included in the poll. Voting runs through Friday, June 26, at noon.
The candidates:
Susanna Barnhart, Grace volleyball — The Knights went 20-1 with a 59-4 sets record, winning the MDCC title.
Todd Bono, Smithsburg girls basketball — The Leopards finished 26-1 (the best record by a county boys or girls basketball team this century), winning CMC Small School and 1A West II region titles and reaching the 1A state semifinals.
Matt Bowman, Williamsport boys soccer — The Wildcats finished 14-2 with a 52-15 scoring margin, winning Tesla Cup (county) and CMC Small School championships.
Scott Cox, Broadfording boys soccer — The Lions went 14-2-1 with a 68-26 scoring margin.
Jessica Custer, Clear Spring volleyball — The Blazers finished 16-6 with a 52-23 sets record and won the Class 1A state championship.
AJ Frazee, Boonsboro softball — The Warriors finished 22-1 (the best record by a county softball team this century), won CMC Small School and 1A West II region titles and played in the 1A state final.
Brandon Glazer, Clear Spring baseball — The Blazers went 16-5 and won the CMC Small School championship.
Karen Hampton, Williamsport volleyball — The Wildcats finished 16-4 with a 52-19 sets record, won CMC Small School and 2A West I region titles and played in the 2A state final.
Chad Hartman, Boonsboro flag football — The Warriors went 10-3 and won their second straight county title.
Lacie Johnson, North Hagerstown volleyball and track & field — The Hubs’ volleyball team went 19-1 with a 58-7 sets record, won CMC Large School and 3A West I region titles and played in the 3A state final. The girls track & field team won the 3A state title outdoors.
Richard Lewis, Saint James boys basketball — The Saints finished 20-9.
Jason McMillan, Clear Spring tennis — The Blazers went 14-1 in boys team matches, 10-4 in girls team matches and won the 1A West team title.
John Miller, Boonsboro golf — The Warriors had a 64-13 head-to-head record, won their ninth straight county tournament team title and qualified as a team for the championship round of the 2A-1A state tournament.
Patrick Moore, Smithsburg baseball — The Leopards went 15-8 and won their second straight 1A West II region title.
Kevin Murphy, Williamsport girls basketball — The Wildcats finished 21-5, won the 2A West I region title and reached the 2A state semifinals.
Colin Ponder, Saint James football — The Saints went 8-2 with a 321-156 scoring differential and won the Mid-Atlantic Conference title.
Mike Rechtorovic, Williamsport wrestling — The Wildcats finished 18-9 in dual matches and won the Clyde Downs Trophy as county champions.
Tim Rockwood, South Hagerstown boys lacrosse — The Rebels went 10-5 to set a program record for victories in a season.
Adam Rudy, Smithsburg cross country and track & field — The Leopards’ boys swept the Class 1A state titles across all three seasons, becoming the first county boys team to accomplish the feat.
John Tucker, Saint James boys lacrosse — The Saints went 9-2 for the county’s best winning percentage.
Mark Wadel, Boonsboro football — The Warriors finished 9-4 with a 506-250 scoring margin and reached the Class 1A state semifinals.
Jonathan Wesson, Williamsport boys basketball — The Wildcats went 16-5 for the best winning percentage in the county.
