The City of Ekurhuleni has condemned the deadly mass shooting that claimed seven lives at the Holfontein off-ramp near Etwatwa along the N12 yesterday.
Five of the victims are patrollers from the Benoni Taxi Association, while the other two include a scholar transport operator and an e-hailing driver.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting are currently under investigation.
However, it is believed the incident could have been a taxi violence-related shooting.
The city says the attack undermines efforts to promote peace and stability within the public transport sector and has called on law enforcement agencies to act swiftly to bring those responsible to justice.
Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini says: “We are appealing to members of the public with information to come forward and share it with the authorities so that the law can take its course against those responsible for this criminal act.”
