MADISON – Breauna Ware seized the moment Sunday Dec. 21.
With graduate guard Destiny Howell sidelined due to a concussion, Ware, a junior, got the start in the non-conference finale and was nearly perfect in an 81-72 win over IU Indy at the Kohl Center.
The 5-foot-7 junior guard finished with a season-high 17 points. She hit five of six shots that included 2 for 2 from 3-point range.
Her play helped the Badgers survive exam week to get their third straight victory. UW also survived 28 turnovers, 26 fouls that led to 30 attempts by the Jaguars and a 4-minute scoreless stretch in the first and second quarters that completely erased a 10-point lead.
Indy led briefly, 25-24, before Wisconsin closed the half with a 9-2 run during the final 3 minutes to lead 33-27 at the break.
That was the start of a 23-10 run that allowed the Badgers to reclaim their double-digit lead and pushed it to 12.
Indy, which trailed by as many as 22 points, didn’t pull within single digits against until the final seconds and the benches were cleared. The Jaguars dropped to 4-8.
