Former media personality Ngizwe Mchunu has apologised to Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema for previous defamatory remarks, adding that his apology is extended to the court for putting it into disrepute.
On Friday, 5 June 2026, the Gauteng High Court found Ngizwe Mchunu guilty of contempt of court.
Judge Etienne Christoffel Labuschagne ruled that he “intentionally and unlawfully republished prohibited statements” after earlier court orders. The court subsequently issued an immediate warrant of arrest and ordered Mchunu to be detained for 10 days.
However, Labuschagne also ruled that he can avoid jail time if he publicly apologises on all social media platforms he’s used in the last six months.
Mchunu says the focus should not be shifted to him getting arrested, but on the undocumented immigrants in the country.
