The Los Angeles Rams pulled off a blockbuster trade deal with the Cleveland Browns for Myles Garrett on Monday. In the process of securing the two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, the Rams parted ways with defensive end Jared Verse.
Verse spent the first two seasons of his career with the Rams after the franchise drafted him with the No. 19 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Verse played in every single one of the Rams’ regular season and playoff games in 2024 and 2025.
In his introductory press conference with the Browns, Verse admitted that he was not only surprised but also upset that the Rams traded him.
“It caught me by surprise. I loved LA. I loved the coaches, the organization, my teammates, the staff, the fans, and the whole vibe of LA,” Verse said. “It was upsetting. I was upset for a good little bit of time. But when you are an athlete, you understand the nature of business. People do what they think is best for their business. That’s the situation that I’m in. I’m happy to be part of the Browns and that they believed in me. I truly do believe in everybody in the locker room. I had two choices: work or give up. I ain’t never been a quitter.”

Two of Verse’s teammates, Byron Young and Braden Fiske, reportedly visited Verse after news broke about the trade. Verse told reporters Young and Fiske offered him support and said their goodbyes before he headed to Cleveland.
Rams Did Not Want to Trade Verse
Rams general manager Les Snead said the organization did not want to trade Verse. However, trading Verse was ultimately how Los Angeles was able to land Garrett.
“I believe he’s exceeded that 19th pick. What he’s done on the field, he’s been a big part of what we’ve been able to accomplish the last three years. We did not want to trade Jared Verse. But in the end, that’s what it took,” Snead said on the “Pat McAfee Show”.
