Hamilton High School on June 4 announced the retirement of longtime softball head coach Steve Heckman.
Heckman, the head coach of the Big Blue for 34 years, was a five-time Greater Miami Conference Coach of the Year and won 474 games at Hamilton.
Under Heckman, Hamilton reached the Ohio High School Athletic Association state tournament three times, in 2001, 2002 and 2006. The 2001 Big Blue finished as Division I runner-up, falling 4-1 to Youngstown Boardman in the state final.

The Big Blue had winning seasons in Heckman’s last four years, including a 16-10 overall record and a 13-5 conference mark to finish third in the GMC in 2026.
The Big Blue last won the GMC championship in 2005, going 21-4 overall with a 16-2 conference mark.
