Mashaba relaunches AReSebetseng clean-up campaign in Alexandra

ActionSA Mayoral Candidate, Herman Mashaba, has officially launched his clean-up campaign #AReSebetseng 2-point-zero in Alexandra, north-east of Johannesburg.

The campaign is a city-wide volunteer clean-up and civic participation movement that is aimed at spreading across greater Johannesburg.

The initiative encourages residents, businesses, and communities to take ownership of their living conditions, as this correlates to safeguarding environmental health standards in public spaces.

Mashaba originally launched the campaign in 2017 during his tenure as Executive Mayor of the City of Joburg.

#AReSebetseng 2.0 is more than an initiative – it is a movement uniting leaders, residents and civil society to build cleaner and safer cities.

Today, we are in Alexandra for the relaunch of this campaign, reaffirming our commitment to restoring dignity in our communities.

“ActionSA engaged with 58 Voting Districts located across nine wards to address pressing challenges affecting Alexandra residents. These include illegal dumping, littering, neglected public spaces, and environmental degradation. During this 2026 iteration, the campaign focuses on poverty reduction to highlight the decline of our neighbourhoods due to a neglectful government,” says Mashaba.

He says there is no question that the living conditions of residents of Alex is that of forgotten people, whose lived reality depicts Johannesburg as a tale of two cities; one for the wealthy, and the other for the poor and unemployed.
