WEST LAFAYETTE − The chess club for Ridgewood Local Schools recently had its year-end chess tournament.
Eli Smoulder was the champion for fourth and fifth grade students with Kyler Osbourn in second place, Bryon Poindexter in third place and Luke Lafferty in fourth place, according to a community announcement.
Jackson Grimmett was the winner for sixth and seventh grades with Alister Chiapetta in second place, Gavin Phillips in third place and Deakon Demeo in fourth place.
Smoulder was also the overall champion for the 2025 to 2025 school year and will have his name engraved on chess club champions’ plaque. Eli’s brother, Jadon, was overall winner in 2021 and and his brother, Noah, was champion in 2024. They are the only three siblings to be on the champions’ plaque.
