You know what a rhetorical question is.
It’s a question that doesn’t require an answer because asking it itself conveys what the inquirer thinks should be communicated.
So, on Wednesday, Commanders head coach Dan Quinn was asked if he had gotten the impact he needed from the 2024 draft picks. Perhaps the media member simply wanted to see how Quinn would respond, because we all know the 2024 draft class has been a disappointment.
What did Quinn say?
“Yeah, I think I don’t want to do like an end-of-year assessment, you know, like as we’re going this week, but it’s really important over the next weeks of what we can do, what we can get done,” Quinn responded. “And so, all of, you know, last year’s class, this year’s class, when we get our chances to go make your mark, you’ve got to be able to go do that. So, we can visit on that post-season, but I think right now I’m just kind of really worried about them developing and playing well in this game.”
Washington GM Adam Peters traded down in the second round, looking to pick up an extra draft pick. The excitement level about this class was high throughout the 2024 season. However, not only are the Commanders now 3-10, but, in all honesty, all season, there have been mentions of disappointment regarding various members of the 2024 class.
Quinn was honest in his response, saying he is “is really worried about them developing and playing well in this game.”
Hey, if you were Dan Quinn and saw how this class has played all season, you would be really worried, too. What does Quinn feel when week after week he sees this team not getting much from the 2024 class that is supposed to be a significant part of the future?
- Jayden Daniels QB (2): After a spectacular 2024, Daniels has struggled in 2025, and he has been injured in four games this season.
- Jer’Zhan Newton DT (36): Drafted to step in and succeed Jon Allen and Daron Payne, the former Big 10 Defensive Player of the Year has yet to display anything close to such an award.
- Mike Sainristil CB (50): After making some really nice plays and playing well in the playoffs in 2024, Sainristil has mostly struggled all season and been very disappointing.
- Ben Sinnott TE (53): Other than special teams, Sinnott has not produced offensively. Now, with Zach Ertz injured, Sinnott will be watched closely to see if he can begin to produce.
- Brandon Coleman OL (67): Coleman was the starting left guard, but lost his job to Chris Paul. Even worse, he found himself a healthy scratch and inactive for five consecutive weeks. Recently, he has returned, replacing Trent Scott as the extra lineman when the Commanders go with a large grouping.
- Luke McCaffrey WR (100): McCaffrey certainly had his opportunity to demonstrate his ability, with injuries to receivers. However, he has not exhibited the ability to get open regularly. A positive is how he was successful in returning kickoffs this season. He was lost for the season several weeks ago with a broken collarbone
- Jordan Magee LB (139): We keep being told how special, explosive, and athletic Magee is. He has made a few nice plays, but overall, there has been little production, leading us to wonder whether Magee will make it.
- Dominique Hampton S/LB (161): Hampton was so ineffective that they released him during the preseason.
- Javontae Jean-Baptiste DE (222): For this low of a pick, he has shown some promise, but there is no evidence he will be an impact player. He was also injured earlier this season.
Imagine Quinn and Peters’ weekly discussions, shaking their heads at how this class has disappointed them throughout the 2025 season.
