Senior Crime Intelligence officer Ismail Dawood, who faces assault and extortion charges, handed himself over to Hillbrow police in Johannesburg on Tuesday morning.
He was immediately detained and is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
Police raided Dawood’s home in Sandhurst on Friday as part of their extortion and assault investigation.
Dawood reportedly stated that the case is not linked to his police job but a civil matter that was already resolved years ago.
