With 48 days until Penn State opens their 2026 campaign against Marshall and once again, nobody on the current roster wearing the No. 48 jersey, we’re jumping back into the time machine to honor a guy who was pretty damned good during his playing days but perhaps you haven’t thought about in a hot minute.
I’m talking of course, about Maurice Evans. During his three years in Happy Valley from 2006-2008, he recorded a career total of 100 tackles, including 29.5 for a loss, and 17 sacks. His sophomore season in 2007 was his most productive, where he recorded 21.5 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, five forced fumbles and a 55-yard fumble return. Maurice would enter the 2009 NFL Draft, ultimately getting picked up by the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent, and ultimately bounce around the league for a few years as well as a brief stint in Canada for the B.C. Lions before ending his professional playing career. A quick Google search shows that these days, Maurice works in his native Brooklyn, New York as a paraprofessional for the New York City Department of Education.
