The Polokwane High Court in Limpopo is expected to deliver judgment on Thursday on the confession statement in the case of a farmer accused of killing two women.
Zacharia Olivier has maintained that he gave the statement under duress and that his rights were not read out to him.
Olivier and co-accused William Musora are being tried for the murders of Maria Makgato and Kudzai Ndlovu.
The women’s bodies were disposed in the pigsty at Onverwacht farm outside Polokwane in August 2024.
On Wednesday, the state prosecutor Advocate George Sekhukhune and the defense lawyer Advocate Jakobus Venter presented their closing arguments on the accused’s confession statement.
Advocate Sekhukhune disputed Olivier’s assertion that his constitutional rights were violated when he gave the confession statement to the police.
Olivier’s defense lawyer argued that the circumstances in which the accused’s statement was obtained is flawed and procedurally incorrect. -Reporting by Avhapfani Munyai
