The Georgia Bulldogs lost out on a major in-state safety recruit earlier in the week. Four-star safety Chance Gilbert shockingly committed to the Auburn Tigers over the Bulldogs, according to Rivals.
Gilbert is a four-star safety from the class of 2027. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound prospect plays high school football and runs track and field at East Coweta High School in Sharpsburg, Georgia. Gilbert is the No. 4 safety prospect and No. 56 overall prospect in the nation.
East Coweta just recently saw twin brothers Courtney and Courtlin Heard, both three-star offensive tackles, sign and enroll at Georgia Tech. Three-star wide receiver Walter Maestre is from the class of 2027, and according to Rivals’ prediction model, Wake Forest is projected to earn his commitment.
With Gilbert’s commitment, Auburn’s class is ranked no. 15. Along with Gilbert, the Tigers have seven four-stars, including linebacker Isaac McNeil, whom Georgia targeted. Auburn has 16 total commits in their class, and they rank No. 5 in the SEC.
Georgia, meanwhile, has the No. 24 class in the nation and the No. 7 class in the SEC. However, the arrow is pointing up at them, too. On June 5, they earned a commitment from four-star quarterback Colton Nussmeier, brother of former LSU gun-slinger Garrett Nussmeier. They’ve also secured commitments from four-star linebacker Joakim Gouda and three-star edge Olayiwola Taiwo in June.
They haven’t earned a commitment in the secondary in this cycle, but they earned some significant ones last season. They flipped 2026 four-star cornerback Caden Harris, who was Vanderbilt’s top 2026 recruit at the time. They also nabbed Tyriq Green, and he made some impact plays at G-Day. Georgia’s secondary looks poised to be one of the best in the nation yet again.
