There will be plenty of angry reactions to tonight’s game. Borussia Dortmund took the lead against Bodø/Glimt twice, only to give it up twice to soft goals and lousy, disinterested play. Julian Brandt scored both of BVB’s goals, finishing off some really well-worked collective offense driven by the likes of Fabio Silva and Yan Couto. But for all the good, there was plenty of bad too. BVB let Glimt back into the game by taking their foot off the gas, and while Dortmund’s starting eleven did a lot right, Kovač got absolutely nothing from his substitutes, none of whom seemed particularly locked in when they got their chance.
It was a game BVB dominated, but they also didn’t deserve to come away from the game with all three points. They lacked the desire to see the game out, and they were punished for it. Here are the nominations for tonight’s Man of the Match in Dortmund’s 2-2 draw against Bodø/Glimt.
Julian Brandt
Brandt was brilliant throughout, and did well to get on the end of two good chances. He has been a little stop and start this season, but in recent games he seems to be coming into form. Dortmund might need to rely on him through December.
Fabio Silva
Everyone has been begging to see Fabio Silva start a game, and this is why. He was excellent, providing the assist for Brandt’s first goal, creating multiple chances, and coming close with several of his own too. Given how poor Guirassy was when he came on in the second half, I think Silva deserves more chances.
Yan Couto
Fabio Silva and Yan Couto were running the offense all night long (or at least until they were subbed off). Couto didn’t get an assist for Brandt’s second goal, but he deserved one.
Maximilian Beier
Unlike the subs, Beier run his socks off while he was on the pitch. He wasn’t brilliant tonight, but his hard work was vital in Dortmund’s best work, and he picked up the assist on Brandt’s second.
