October 26, 2025 – As the search for deceased hostages intensifies, Israel has granted permission for the Red Cross and Egyptian teams to operate beyond the “yellow line,” which marks the Israeli military’s pullback in Gaza. The teams will assist in identifying and recovering the bodies of hostages killed during the conflict, with hopes of providing closure to families.
At the same time, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the broader issue of Gaza’s future stability, stating that Israel would determine which foreign forces it would allow as part of a proposed international force. This force, part of U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan, aims to secure the fragile ceasefire. However, concerns remain over Hamas’ refusal to disarm, which complicates the formation of a peacekeeping force. Countries like Egypt, Indonesia, and various Gulf states are under consideration, but it’s unclear whether they will commit troops.
In addition, the U.S. military has taken initial steps to monitor the ceasefire, with around 200 personnel deployed to oversee the situation and coordinate humanitarian aid efforts. The U.S. presence in southern Israel is part of a complex mission to stabilize Gaza, with longer-term plans to establish an international force to manage the ceasefire and help secure the region.
Amid these discussions, Austria’s Chancellor Christian Stocker has rejected calls to ban Israel from the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest, citing Austria’s historical responsibility related to the Holocaust. Stocker’s comments came during Austria’s National Day celebrations, as the country prepares to host the contest next year.
Meanwhile, humanitarian groups are warning that Gaza’s surface could take decades to clear of unexploded ordnance, with estimates suggesting that it will take 20 to 30 years to remove the lethal remnants of war. Already, over 50 people have been killed by unexploded bombs, and the clearance efforts have yet to begin, as Israel has not yet allowed ordnance clearance operations to commence.
With these developments, the situation in Gaza remains precarious, with international efforts intensifying to both stabilize the region and address the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
