Juventus suffered another setback in their Serie A campaign, falling 2-0 to Como on Sunday. The result marked their sixth consecutive match without a win across all competitions, following five straight draws.
Como took an early lead in the fourth minute when Marc-Oliver Kempf volleyed in from close range at the far post after Nico Paz delivered a curling cross. Juventus thought they had equalized in the 36th minute through Jonathan David, but his goal was ruled out for offside in the build-up.
The visitors continued to struggle, and in the 79th minute, Paz doubled Como’s advantage with a sensational solo effort. He cut inside from the right, danced past Andrea Cambiaso, and curled a left-footed strike beyond goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio.
Paz, who has been in exceptional form this season, now has four goals and four assists in Serie A, directly contributing to eight of Como’s nine goals so far. His performance continues to highlight his importance to the club, and Como’s 2-0 victory lifted them to fifth in the standings, level on 12 points with Juventus, who sit sixth.
It was also a historic win for Como, as it was their first-ever Serie A victory over Juventus since 1952.
Como manager Cesc Fabregas, who led the team to promotion last season, praised Paz’s potential, referring to him as a “champion” and expressing confidence in his future. Fabregas also recalled a conversation with his former Arsenal coach Arsène Wenger, during which he shared his belief in Paz’s ability to reach the top level of football.
Juventus, who began the season with an impressive attack, have seen their goals dry up, especially since their 4-3 win over Inter Milan last month. Manager Igor Tudor made a tactical change in the 77th minute, bringing on striker Dusan Vlahovic for midfielder Manuel Locatelli, just two minutes before Como’s second goal.
Tudor acknowledged the team’s struggles, saying, “We believed this setup was the best for the team… but against a side like Como you have to run a lot. We got caught on that counter-attack, and at 2-0, the game was over.”
The loss leaves Juventus in a tough spot, as they continue to search for consistency.
