Angola have appointed Patrice Beaumelle as their new head coach, just a week before their final set of 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Beaumelle, 47, takes over from Pedro Goncalves, who was dismissed after Angola’s disappointing loss to Libya left them out of contention for a spot in next year’s World Cup.
The Frenchman is a well-known figure in African football, having spent much of his career as an assistant coach to compatriot Hervé Renard. Beaumelle previously worked with Angola from 2010 to 2012, and has since had stints as head coach of Zambia and Ivory Coast. He also led Algerian club Mouloudia Alger to the group stages of the African Champions League last season.
Beaumelle’s first matches in charge will be World Cup qualifiers against Eswatini on October 8 and Cameroon on October 13. He will also prepare for the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco later this year, where Angola will aim to make an impact under their new leadership.
