Sept 1 — Liverpool have reportedly agreed to sign Swedish striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle United for a British record fee of around £130 million ($175 million), according to Sky Sports News and The Athletic.
The 25-year-old will join on a long-term contract after protracted negotiations dominated the Premier League transfer window. An earlier £110m bid was rejected in August, but Liverpool pushed through before Monday’s deadline.
Isak was Newcastle’s standout performer last season, netting 23 league goals to secure Champions League qualification with a fifth-place finish. He also struck in the League Cup final against Liverpool, helping Newcastle lift their first domestic trophy in 70 years.
Tensions had risen in recent weeks as Isak skipped Newcastle’s pre-season tour and trained separately, with manager Eddie Howe describing the saga as a “lose-lose” situation. The forward later accused the club of breaking promises and misleading fans, confirming his desire to leave.
Neither Liverpool nor Newcastle have officially commented, but Isak’s move is set to reshape the Premier League landscape as Jürgen Klopp’s side strengthen their attack with one of Europe’s top strikers.
