Manchester, Aug 19 (Reuters) – Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been crowned the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Player of the Year for 2025, becoming the first player in history to win the prestigious award three times.
The 33-year-old Egyptian, who first claimed the prize in 2018 and again in 2022, topped the vote of PFA members across England’s 92 league clubs after a record-breaking season.
Salah finished last campaign as the Premier League’s leading scorer with 29 goals and also provided 18 assists, driving Liverpool to the league title with a 10-point margin over Arsenal. His dominance was reflected in a clean sweep of accolades – the Premier League Player of the Season, the Golden Boot, and the Playmaker award – marking the first time a player has won all three in a single season.
The six-man shortlist included Salah’s teammate Alexis Mac Allister, Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes, Arsenal’s Declan Rice, and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer.
Elsewhere, Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers was named Men’s Young Player of the Year, while Arsenal’s Mariona Caldentey won Women’s Player of the Year after a stellar debut campaign. Canadian forward Olivia Smith, who top-scored for Liverpool last season, collected the Women’s Young Player of the Year award before sealing a landmark £1 million transfer to Arsenal – the first seven-figure move in women’s football.
Salah, who signed a two-year contract extension with Liverpool in April, also led a strong Reds contingent in the Premier League Team of the Year, which featured four of his teammates.
