Video footage showed Legette throwing multiple punches at Jenkins’ helmeted head. Jenkins retaliated with one punch before Legette fell to his knees and wrapped Jenkins’ legs. Jenkins then tore off Legette’s helmet as the altercation continued on the ground.
The incident occurred with about seven minutes remaining in the first quarter following a run for no gain by Panthers running back Chuba Hubbard.
Legette later apologized to Panthers fans on social media, saying, “Panthers nation I apologize. It (won’t) happen again!!!! I appreciate you all.”
Legette, 24, was a first-round pick out of South Carolina in 2024 and started 13 games as a rookie, catching 49 passes for 497 yards and four touchdowns.
Jenkins, 31, joined the Browns as a free agent in May after stints with the Seattle Seahawks and Jacksonville Jaguars. In his NFL career spanning 122 games, Jenkins has recorded 10 interceptions and 517 tackles.
